Calm Has Been Restored And The Situation Is Under Control After Terrorists Attack Kuje Prison Abuja - Prison Spokesperson Confirms

Kuje Medium Prison, Abuja came under heavy attack by unknown terrorists on Tuesday night, July 5.


The terrorists were said to have fired gunshots and threw high-capacity bombs in the area.

The attackers reportedly came in from the back of the prison yard.


A man who seems to be in the prison yard made a video in which he alerted the public of the gun attacks.

The spokesperson for the Nigerian Correctional Service, AD Umar, has confirmed last night's attack on the Kuje correctional center in Abuja, adding that the situation has been controlled.


Unknown gunmen stormed the facility at about 10pm and opened fire as well as detonated some bombs.


Confirming the incident, Umar said;

“I wish to confirm that about 2200hrs, some yet-to-be-identified gunmen attacked the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kuje in the Federal Capital Territory.

However, men of the Armed Squad of the Nigerian Correctional Service and other security agencies attached to the Custodial centre have responded and calm has been restored to the facility and the situation is under control.
