Two Nigerian senators today, June 22 announced their defection from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC).
Senator Francis Onyewusi (Imo East) who is a first-timer in the Senate, was a member of the PDP, and he defected to Labour Party (LP). His counterpart in Bauchi, Haliru Dauda Jika (Bauchi Central) was a member of the ruling APC and he defected to the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
Their letters of defection were read on the floor by the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan.
The defected Senators cited injustice and inequity in their former political parties that made them fail the primary elections.
