In the last 50 years of commercial air travel in Nigeria, over three dozens of airlines have come and gone as a result of politics, mismanagement of funds, corruption, the high cost of aviation fuel or financial loss.

According to the International Air Transport Association, Nigeria, together with some other African countries, are among the most expensive places to do airline business .
