Secondary School Students Crushed to Death by Ajumose Bus in Ibadan


A popular Oyo state-owned mass transit, known as “Ajumose” bus, has been responsible for the deaths of secondary school students in Ibadan after a reckless drive.



The ugly incidence took place near a hospital in Mokola, after which it attracted other pupils, and resulted in a mob attack on the bus.
It was learnt that some aggrieved individuals vandalised the vehicle by smashing the windscreen and side mirror.
They were said to have also attacked the driver, a middle-aged man.
An eyewitness, Mr Isaac Ajibade, while describing the incident as unfortunate, said the mob damaged the bus, adding that they apprehended the driver.
He said: “The traffic was light. Pupils were going home. Suddenly, the bus appeared and hit them, killing a secondary school girl. Passengers alighted, but the mob apprehended the driver. He was beaten up before the police rescued him.”
Spokesman of the state Police command, Adekunle Ajisebutu, who confirmed the incident, disclosed that the driver was recuperating at Police Hospital, Eleyele, Ibadan.
He said: “The driver is in our custody. He has been taken to Police Hospital, Eleyele, Ibadan.
“The body of the pupil has been deposited at Alafia Hospital morgue. Investigation has begun.”
