Fergie Has Apologized About The 'National Anthem' Controversy

This weekend saw Fergie’s utterly unique take on the US national anthem, to put it politely.

After a massive online backlash to her sexed-up version of Star Spangled Banner, the singer has come out and said sorry for her experimental attempt that saw people compare her vocals to those of Marilyn Monroe and Jessica Rabbit.
Fergie, 42, gave a performance at the weekend’s NBA All-Star event that saw plenty of people – both players and audiences – unable to contain their laughter during the eclectic version.
But now, after a few days of internet infamy and mockery, the Black Eyed Peas singer has issued a response.
Speaking to TMZ, the star said she ‘tried her best’ but admitted it didn’t quite work for her audience.
‘I’ve always been honored and proud to perform the national anthem and last night I wanted to try something special for the NBA,’ she revealed.
‘I’m a risk-taker artistically, but clearly this rendition didn’t strike the intended tone. I love this country and honestly tried my best,’ she expressed.
Despite the intense mockery for the out-there performance, it’s hard to be genuinely mad at the singer.
And just to remind everyone of how harsh the internet was to her, here’s a taster of what Twitter had to say on the matter.
Traditionally, Star Spangled Banner is sung with the same tone and inclination and, most importantly, in time with the accompanying music. So when things were tackled differently it appeared people were just not keen on the idea.
No doubt the whole controversy will blow over soon enough.
After all, if Justin Timberlake can expose someone else’s breast on live TV and get invited back to the Super Bowl, then Fergie can take this with a pinch of salt.
